Charlie Chaplin's 54th Film Released Aug. 07 1916 One A.M. was a unique Charlie Chaplin silent film created for Mutual Films in 1916. It was the first film he starred in alone, except for a brief scene of Albert Austin playing a cab driver. Chaplin plays the role of a wealthman coming home late, after too much to drink. He only wants to go to bed, but 'everything' around him prevents him. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0007145/ ( 4 reviews ) Topics: Charlie Chaplin, Silents
This is a project that was put together in just a few hours. Many young children have no interest in silent movies, which means they are missing some of the best movies ever made. We produced this short subject in the hope that it would spark some interest in old silent movies for a younger generation. I enjoyed the video so much I am now hoping to produce several more of them......Special Editors Note: we have created "Flawed Family Flicks" as a fun way to rekindle new interest in... The corner of 23rd Street and 6th Avenue was renowned for its gusty breezes that might allow a man to catch a glimpse of a woman's stockings. In this staged scene we see Alfred Abadie, an Edison cameraman, and Florence Georgie strolling along when Georgie has a Marilyn Monroe type moment. This film was restored by the Library of Congress and was copied at 16fps from 35mm. ( 4 reviews ) Topics: Edison, silent
This short film was a test for Edison's "Kinetophone" project, the first attempt in history to record sound and moving image in synchronization. This was an experiment by William Dickson to put sound and film together either in 1894 or 1895. Unfortunately, this experiment failed because they didn't understand synchronization of sound and film. The large cone on the left hand side of the frame is the "microphone" for the wax cylinder recorder (off-camera). The Library of... This is the very first screen kiss ever filmed, the year was 1896. The lady seems a little embarrased and reluctant, but it had never been done before so its not really surprising. Four years later in 1900 the couple are far more daring with big pecks, and seem to be enjoying it. Very naughty stuff for the time. Not bad quality for films over 100 years old.
